What if there were no ongoing series?

Virtually every open-ended book has had 'dry spells'

Well considering that load of crap we have been served in the limited series theese last 5 years (except of starlin and Ennis) I think we should stick with the on-going.

What do you mean by limited series, though? Ongoings also provide a place in which creators can tell a story over several years and sub-arcs. Yes, say, Morrison's X-Men could be restructured as a series of minis, but I don't know if that would benefit the book. Now, if by 'limited series' you mean a book that lasts for as long as the creators stay on the book, whether that's 6 issues or 80, that would probably be a good thing.

This idea would never work, Jim because there's no accounting for taste. The issues that you didn't like, i guarantee were well-liked by others. The issues that you loved were someone else idea of a 'dry spell'. You cant leave out the low-quality issues because no on can agree on what they are. The only exception might be 'fill-in' issues that are put in when the creative team needs to catch up. But fill-ins arent necessarily low-quality. For example, Neil Gaiman's fill-in issue of Hellblazer (#19 or 20) is regardded as one of the best issues. Your idea doesnt work because there's no consensus on quality.

Also, the 'Dry spells' are issues that actually sell. People have subscriptions and others devoutly purchase every issue to keep their collections intact. i dont think the companies purposely put out crap.

Well, if they didn't do monthly, maybe Quietly (sp?) might have time to do all the pencils, instead of bringing in a replacement person at the last

Two words: Spider Clone.

Yeah, there are some stories that some like and others hate, but there are some stories that are so appallingly bad that they have the unique ability to make all comics fans agree.........

Ever see the Annuals Marvel put out in the late 80s, early 90s? They were deliberately shoehorned into trying to make them all tell one extended story. Most of them were awful.
