blast-off!!!

Was anyone else surprised that Thor was able to dent the shield in Avengers #63?

Granted, the uru hammer is one kick ass weapon, but the shield is supposed to be nigh-invulnerable. I would have thought that the shield would have absorbed the blow and not dented. Particularly when you consider that Thor only knocked Cap back and couple of dozen feet (or so it appeared from subsequent panels...).

And why isn't Cap sporting a broken arm? If the blow was enough to dent the shield, the impact would have pulverized the bones in Cap's arm(s).

Just my opinion.

Yes, Cap's shield is not only indestructible but also absorbs force. That's why he's can take all those superhuman blows all the time.

It's the only way....after all, a bullet-proof vest may keep a bullet from peircing you, but you will still be knocked back on your butt.
