But I would recommend them for kids.
The younger ones don't care....this is an excellent idea.
I would also recommend Power Pack from the back issues and maybe the 'Essentials' line,as you could read them to him?

Being an Alan Scott fan is alot like being a pagan in america...you know others exist but you never see them on tv.

I've got to point out that I haven't read any of these titles, so it's more a suggestion for a suggestion;
Teenage mutant ninja turtles, Thundercats and Transformers.
Like I say, I don't read any of them, so I can say if they are suitable, or if they're any good, but all came from cartoons I remember watching as a kid, so may be worth a look.

He-man, GI Joe & Voltron are all great comics for kids. Solid action stories. not too violent. He-man is out in a little digest sized trade for $10 too. VERY highly recommended for kids. Transformers Generation One probably skews to older kids or teens, but the TF Armada comic is fine for kids.
T-cats is more about T&A than the cartoons ever were.
TMNT, the color comic has a serious lack of Ninja Turtles. The B&W TMNT comic from Mirage is a bit dark for kids.
Spider-girl. Meridian. Scion. Batman. All very accessable to new readers and young ones.
