Avengers Line Up

Wow, that has to be one of the biggest line ups I've ever seen in a team book. Twelve active Avengers. Not to mention the appearance of Photon, Namor and Quicksilver. I have enjoyed Johns work on JSA, but is this too many characters? Is he going to keep the twelve hero line up after this particular storyline? I like Ant Man, but the team already has the Wasp and Yellowjacket. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Jack of Hearts return to outer space. John has done a really good job at developing the characters in the JSA, but that is a much smaller team. We shall see.....

I do think he did a nice job with this issue setting up the most recent threat to Earth. It seems like he is keeping Kurt's epic storylines theme. Good. To me, that is what made Morrison's JLA interesting.

I think they are going to need a bigger mansion.

Even discounting the last two, that still makes for 14 members... and that's assuming I haven't forgotten anybody (which wouldn't surprise me).

You are correct. For some reason the team just didn't seem that big.

My only gripe with the line-up is the lack of explanation for characters coming and going.

She-Hulk? In all previous appearances, she kept insisting she could only help briefly, because of her law practice. Nothing like that here. She's just... there, like a permanent member.

Triathlon? Where is he? Kurt deliberately stated he was returning to the Avengers. Now he's nowhere to be seen. Why no comment on that?

The explanation for Falcon and Black Panther's appearances were acceptable, but Ant-Man? He's repeatedly declined all offers of membership or active duty, because of his daughter. Now all of a sudden, he pops in because he 'intercepted' the call for help?

I don't mind the lineup changing, but in every previous case that I've read in Avengers, there's at least been an explanation for WHY a change takes place.

Not a She Hulk fan. However, she does seem to be acting as lawyer for the Avengers. I have no idea what happened to her personal practice. I only notice her team appearances and she has been a member of both the Avengers and the FF.

I'm glad he is gone. Didn't he say he had some things to work out. Probably how to deal with merging with two white dudes. No offense, but I REALLY didn't like Triathlon.

Well, I don't know if he is permanant. Perhaps he needs the cash (he does always seem to be broke.) BTW, hasn't he been dealing with a custody battle for years now? Or is this something new? When did he get the lame full facial helmet?

Well, I have to admit not being a big fan of Warbird, Jack of Hearts , or She Hulk. I'll give Geoff the benefit of the doubt, but I'm not really understanding Ant-Man's place with Yellowjacket on the team. I'm also not sure how I feel about the Panther joining up. He seems to be more concerned with his personal affairs in his book. I could really handle a team of about eight. However, Geoff might have some interesting plans and the more characters he has to work with, the more interesting it might be to him. I enjoy his other books, so I'll definitely stick around to find out. I'm guessing that when the smoke settles from their latest adventure things will be explained.

Wait. What? Can someone give me Triathalon's history? I stopped reading Avengers regularly around the time with Triathalon and the black Avengers Liaison argueing storyline.
