I've recently picked up the last 6 months of Black Panther, and while reading several fanzines I've noted that there is supposed to be a new direction for the character and the book itself. Does anyone have any idea what that new direction includes?

Is the Black Panther supposed to be Ultimatized? Are Priest, Velluto, Almond leaving the book? Can anyone fill me in, please?

Respectfully yours, -Mike Cruz

Lots of action in NYC, apparently.

Not at this time.

Priest, thankfully not. Velluto and Almond, yes, but they're expecting work shortly if they don't already have it in hand.

Well, Priest does, and he sometimes visits this group, but he ain't telling. }->

No, no, yes, yes, sure. While the new direction may have more of an Ultimate feel, it will continue to be set in the main Marvel U. Priest is staying on, but there's a new art team. I seem to recall talk of Velluto and Almond getting a new project together soon, forget if Priest would be writing that one.

It's a new JSA project, it was announced ... I think at Newsarama earlier today. Velluto and Almond, yes.

And for the record, Dan Fraga is the new artist, but word is he's already on the way out after two issues. Don't know if any word's been released on who's coming aboard after him.

Jorge Lucas, at least for a few issues.

(I might quibble with Dave's calling the book Ultimatized. I think that 'urbanized' is a better word. Less West Wing, more Law & Order )

From the little pictures in the back of issue #49, it looks like leather coats and big guns... Not too keen on Panther taking this tack, but I also have faith in Priest making it interesting and more than it seems on the surface. I came on late in the game, around Enemy Of The State II, but I'm having a great time with the back issues I'm slowly accumulating. Damn this stuff is good... I wonder if Priest would think about writing a Panther script for Hollywood?

Whatever became of Jerry Bingham, who drew what was mainly a Panther story in Iron Man Annual 6 years back? Is he still in comics? He drew a good Panther And Iron Man.

I sort of doubt it. I think he knows he wouldn't enjoy the heartache of seeing what they might do to his script. I also think he know he wouldn't have the control of the process he likes to produce the work he'd want to see.

But he doesn't really need to write a script. Entire movies have been storyboarded already, with lots of great dialogue and at times some obvious casting. All hollywood needs to do is get some competent people to turn the alread written material into a movie. I think Priest would be more of a hinderance than an aid in this process. He'd probably rather see someone with the experience needed (Sam Rami?) take his books and run with them.

Without giving too much away (I've gleaned some things from Priest's website), I'd say the book is not exactly what it appears to be. We aren't looking at a Punisher riff, here....

Jerry seems to be working outside of comics now. Mostly movies and design work.

Have a look:
