What on earth are you babbling about? It does not make you look your thoughtful and selective in your reading.

What cheeky, geek irony.

I think if people buy an AMAZING SPIDER-MAN book, they want to get SPIDER-MAN. People think Peter is such a great character, and ...he's not. No, he's not. He's just a vessel. And action can be just fine, hell, the day Batman stops kicking ass is the day it's all over (not saying all books must be like this or even resemble superheroes in the slightest bit), at least it's not pretentious.

In case of nuclear war, I will be buying books with foil covers (lead foil). I will buy Captain America #1 by Joe Simon with Cap punching Saddam on the cover. I will buy the issue where Gladiator picks up all the nuclear weapons and puts them in the Blue Area of the moon. (Isn't the moon blue?)

But as for continuity, I think it is possible to satisfy both old and young fans. 30 years ago, Bill Everett did one issue of Sub-Mariner where Subby fought a whacky giant ape called Torg. Subby defeated Torg in one issue and Torg was never seen again. I thought that I was the only one who bought that issue. Until Torg showed up in one issue of Avengers recently written by Kurt Busiek. But if you hadn't read that Everett Sub-Mariner issue, it wouldn't harm your comprehension of that Avengers issue at all. That's good writing. It's like you make a movie and there's a cameo for 30 seconds with Muhammad Ali as a man selling newspapers in the background. If you know Ali, you say 'hey, it's cool; I'm not the only one who remembers him.' If you don't know Ali, it doesn't spoil the movie.

It's weird, this. Stan said that he originally didn't want the FF to wear costumes, but so many people complained that he had to give them costumes. Stan also said that the Punisher movie producers didn't want the Punisher to wear a costume because 'it looked like a comic book'.
