Ah, but that's only American. Worldwide estimates are $155 million, half of what X-MEN did during its entire run, so says Yahoo!Movies

The worldwide gross is covered in the linked article. So the worldwide gross is according to Box Office Mojo as well. The overseas gross is not a record either (though the scope of the release is). And also, Yahoo Movies is not a source. They have syndicated content, so what you read is really from Reuters or AP or whatever service is listed in the byline.

For charts referred to in this post, they can only really be market specific, so only America, only UK, etc. It's too incongruous to lump everything together (not to mention near impossible to get all the grosses from all the countries in consistent, timely and even accurate way) for anything other than a total aggregate chart. And, also, America is the focus because it's the most important market. Sure, every other market lumped together can equal it or surpass it, but certainly not individually.

What was that other highly-touted superhero movie that couldn't do this much in it's first month? Dumbdevil... Daredimbulb... Dingdong...

Was it expected to? You know, not being a sequel to a successful movie, not being a summer blockbuster, not being about a character anywhere near as popular or well-known as the X-Men.

Sshhhh you're pointing out flaws in his flawless criticism. 8) People's gotta prove DD bombed and that they're not making a sequel to it, just to prove how superior they are.

To be honest, I'm doubtful that DAREDEVIL will see a sequel, based on the fact that it didn't break even. Video sales will change this, but I'm not sure it will be enough to warrant a second film.

This is true, but considering the budget for DAREDEVIL, it didn't do too well at all.

You didn't actually READ the earlier posts in the thread, did you, son?

I *wanted* DAREDEVIL to be a good film, and to do boffo biz. It wasn't a good film, and it did poorly. Not CAPTAIN AMERICA (Geez) poorly, but badly enough.

For years superhero films were trapped in the low-budget movie serial/B movie format. (Mind you, within that format, miracles like CAPTAIN MARVEL and the FLASH GORDON trilogy were achieved!) Filmmakers were AFRAID to do a big-budget superhero film. Even legendary sf producer George Pal (WAR OF THE WORLDS, WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE, etc.) bombed with DOC SAVAGE. Richard Donner risked a lot to do SUPERMAN in 1978. He pulled it off and set a standard for comic adaptations on film that has yet to be surpassed. DAREDEVIL was a step backwards. X2 at least holds level with the first X-MEN and SPIDER-MAN in terms of quality.

Next you'll be saying BATMAN & ROBIN was a good film...

No. The summer movies start coming out May 1st these day, and have for the past several years.

Not really. Finals are still weeks away for most kids. It doesn't affect sales that kids are still in school.

released.

Doesn't matter what the studios say, kids are still in school, as they were in February. So comparing a February release to a pre-Memorial Day release is a legitimate comparison. Comparing a February release to a post-Memorial Day release must take into account that most kids are released for the summer somewhere in the Memorial Day-June 15th period.

Thank you. You've just confirmed my point.
