Hello. I actually completed the entire 9-issue series, plus ALL the crossover issues, plus FF #319: 'Secret Wars 3' at a comic convention in december. My comment is that this series is much deeper than when I originally read the 9 issues in elementary school since I found all the crossover chapters.

I do have a couple problems with it though. One of the FF issues, I forget which one, feels like it was just thrown in because there was only one mention of the Beyonder towards the end of the book. It ended with the FF fighting someone in the Microverse.

My second issue was some of what Beyonder did himself. There were times, like when he was on his 'Thinking Island' that I just got so bored with the dialogue and writing that I felt like quitting the second War right there. I think it was SW2 #5, or around there.

Overall, I liked the Second Secret War better than SW1.

My question is, in the Cloak and Dagger chapter, what exactly is written to describe the Beyonder when he experiences the effect of illegal drugs? It's written in such bright-red and white ink, that I can't make it out.

That's my question.

I've always maintained that SW2 is a good read. Better than SW1, even though I liked that one too. Until now I don't think I've ever seen anyone agree with me that SW2 is good. I think a lot of people give it a bad rap on account of Al Milgrom's art. But hey, give the man a break! It may not be flashy and streamlined, but the guy knows his stuff.

Dunno.

It could have been painted by Alex Ross and I'd still rank it as one of the worst comics ever.

And Al Milgrom does certainly know his stuff...as an inker. As a penciller, most of his stuff was pretty dreadful.

I don't know that I feel SW2 itself was a good read. I do think it actually caused some good stories as a result of the Beyonder's presence in some of the books. (His presence was not the good thing so much as the effects of his presence.)

So SW1 is bad? Let me know, if I intend to collect it, I'll need to pick up the usual supporting dozen comics. I'd hate to buy them all for a poor pre-Q type

No, I think most long-time Marvel fans consider Secret Wars 1 to be quite good. Classic, even. And what's better, it didn't have any crossovers. The heroes just walked into this big structure in Central Park in one issue, and came back from the 12-issue Secret Wars in the next. There were no distinct crossover issues. Of course, all that changed with Secret Wars II...
