I was reading an old issue of the Defenders (first series) yesterday. I'm not really sure what the overall story was, but it seems that several heroes were trying to join the team. There was a wide range of characters, from Havok and Polaris to Jack of Hearts and the Prowler. Heck, even Captain Ultra was lurking around the edges. But there was one guy I had never heard of before: Tagak?!? He had some sort of cheetah/leopard mojo going on.

Who is this guy? What's his story? Where'd he come from? What makes him worthy to stand with the likes of Stingray and Black Goliath?

That's the very stylish Tagak the Leopard Lord. Prior to the story you're referring to, he had only appeared in DAREDEVIL #72. Since that time, he hasn't been seen at all.

So if you're looking to discover the true wonderment that is Tagak, DD #72 will fill you in.

Short version, though

But if you're willing to settle for close, you can check out Tagak the Lantern Lord from IRON LANTERN #2. Man, I wish they'd reprint an affordable copy of that issue ...

rose up with the following chant:

Is that a trick question?

Y'know, I was wondering that the other day, so *I'm* glad he asked. And I even know everyone else from that issue.

If anyone remembers the old Cheeks The Toy Wonder Silver Age site, he had a number of pages where he put together what he felt would be the ideal lineups for various teams (If I Ran The Justice League, Avengers, Suicide Squad, Teen Titans, etc.) ... he suggested Tagak as being a primo choice for the Defenders.
