Fantastic Four 9-cent issue: Foiled!

well, I enjoyed the issue personally...made me care about Reed Richards again...

HOWEVER>...

I was going to get over 300 copies for my elementary students who take art from me...until I read the 'anyone remember having a lizard' and 'big brains do it for me' comments. Well now if that isn't just a little bit lewd for the Fantastic Four! I wanted a comic I could give to kids and get them hooked...but instead I thought better of it...what if parents read these things? What are they going to think? On a more personal note...I dont' think Johnny and Sue would EVER say these things....what does everyone else think?

I didn't like the dialog at all; to me it read like a crappy (aren't they all?) TV sitcom. Maybe that was the intention but I couldn't stomach it.

I was afraid that this post would be about how Marvel was releasing a foil-enhanced cover version of that issue......

Beast Wars got a little risqué at times. There was a 'toggle your joystick' reference that made it by the censors.

Actually, your points are well made and I rescind my arguments re: Archie etc. I don't know that Ren & Stimpy was ever marketed as a kids show, however.

As to Beast Wars, I'd like to note that show was not really written for kids anyway, and you'll notice that type of humor is not present (or at least, certainly not remotely as present) in Beast Machines, Robots In Disguise, or Armada. Beast Wars as a cartoon is approximately 4 years old now.

Loosen up, fer chrissake!! If there are still any kids who would be shocked to hear a phrase like 'draining the lizard' - and I sincerely doubt that there are -, they are being kept in the dark ages by narrowminded overprotective parents and should be alerted to the modern world before they grow up to be bigots and fundamentalists.

FF #60 is *perfectly suitable* for kids. The youngest ones won't get the reference anyway.

The Dangers of snipping. You miss the context. Here is a bit more from the origional post:

It's not what the kids would think that he was wondering about, it was what the parent would think. Remember he was considering giving away **to school children** copies of this book. One irate parent and he could be out of a job.

Parents can be a lot more open minded than you give them credit for. The book has a G rating.

If he gave them the books and the a parent was a religious nut and too offense to the characters having 'magikal polwers' they'd complain anyway. Remember this is a country which tried to have Harry Potter banned from schools.

I thought it was pretty harmless also, but the original posters circumstances are a little different. If you were a teacher trying to maneuver the minefield of influencing other peoples children, you may feel differently. Just because your opinion is that it's *perfectly suitable*, doesn't mean that these children's parents would share that view, and those are the opinions that really matter in this case.
