I can't help but associate the FF with being a 50's super hero team in a way that most other Heroes from that era have escaped...

Theres Reed Richards smoking a pipe with a cardigan over his costume, fiddling with test tubes. Whilst Sue brings him some apple pie from the new 'electric' oven.. Meanwhile Johnny plays Frisbee on the lawn and Ben pulls up in his convertible with the wireless playing some rock'n'roll and they all laugh about their next trip into space, as long as the Skrulls, or the Russians, don't invade first..

Is it just me?

Sorry, I guess that should have been baseball, not frisbee!

Perhaps Cap'n America and Cap'n Marvel could drop by and join in the game, the latter using his power of 'SHAZAM!' to send the ball to the moon! My, how they'd laugh then!

Yep, cool isn't it

Ellwood

By the way #500 was one-hell-of-a good read. The best FF in Ages.

If it were just you, then there likely wouldn't have been that Unstable Molecules mini a few months back...

Scott

(Actually, '50s would've made them retro right out of the gate, since they debuted in '61.)

Which is pretty surprising, since they weren't even created until the '60s.

Well, yes. I dunno where you've been picking up your FF comics, but what you're describing has NEVER been the FF.

Further, the OP description of the 50's fits would fit the early sixties equally well (or equally poorly). Nothing really retro going on in the FF at all.

The story, as I recall, is that Reed was the first to discover them, after the rays that gave the FF their powers also altered their flight suits, rendering them unstable.
