I started about the same time as you, but by reading the UK reprints which started all the Marvel stories from each first issue.
I loved those early books, and to me, the Hulk is Ross and the army chasing him, and him destroying tanks, leaping into the sky etc, with plenty of rage and huge destruction! Hulk Smash and puny humans was what I grew up with, and the images of the Hulk lifting out the side of a mountain still stick in my mind 30 years later. I still see the Hulk from issue 2 lifting up a cannon and the soldiers falling from it - wonderful imagery from when I was about 9 years old...
That's not to say I haven't enjoyed the newer runs of the title, and the changes that came with them, but my early childhood was of awe and wonder reading Stan and Co's comics, and that's how I'd like to see them on the big screen if possible. A 70s hulk is fine by me. :O)
I know I'll be dissapointed with the changes they make for the film to appeal to a wider audience, but we can't have everything unfortunately...
