Tom DeFalco tried with books that had much the same structure and appeal as his M2 work, and they sunk with barely a trace. I remember they were offered by Image, but I don't even recall the titles at this point.
I suspect a significant portion of Spider-Girl's readers were hardcore continuity fans who loved seeing storylines like the Clone Saga revisited. (Personally, that kind of plotting was why I gave up on the book.) Those fans wouldn't see the point in buying a similar book from another company, or they'd be reading Meridian or Akiko or other titles

I hated the clone saga and am not one to worry too much about decades old continuity and I enjoyed the first (only?) Spider-girl TPB. It was fun, well written with good pencils. I was entertained for awhile and that's what I enjoyed about it. Maybe some fans were there just for the references to old continuity, but I would gladly buy the rest of the issues in TPB form if they entertained me the way the first did.

The early issues were telling stories that weren't as nearly continuity-involved as they are now, if I remember correctly.
