For those of us who have been following Marvel's attempt to purchase Artisan Entertainment, the recent bit of news published by Rich at LITG yesterday was a bit of a shock. Rich speculated that Marvel may have been attempting to look at the books instead of seriously attempting to purchase the company. Rich doesn't reveal a foundation for his speculation, but I have a hard time swallowing it. The purchase of Artisan would give them a controlled venue through which to market it's films. Does anyone have any opinions on this subject?

Well, that's presumably part of the point of the Epic line. Lots of nice cheap concepts. Remember, it doesn't matter whether the comic itself is successful or makes any money - look at Men In Black.
