Yup.

Although I have the feeling that this type of storytelling (high on characterization, low on splashy pyrotechnics) is simply not suited for the direct market. I think it IS suited for more general tastes and the mass market, but whether it can survive long enough for bookstore sales to support it isn't known.

To dismiss this book as bad because it doesn't fit preconcieved notions of superhero action is rather narrow-minded thinking...and the fanbase and direct market shops aren't noted for much broadmindedness...

I was under the impression that you didn't have to provide your own art or writing partner.

You are mistaken. Marvel's section does not only contain covers.

Ongoing series, iirc.

Well, to me the former is more like an afterthought. You don't have to do much legwork to go to a web page and look at some pictures. Finding an artist in real life would be much harder.

It sounds tempting, but it also sounds too good to be true. After looking over some of the stuff Marvel has on their site, I'm not entirely sure that Epic is my cup of creative tea... One the one hand, it looks like a good way to break into the business. On the other hand, though, it just seems a little iffy to me...

For another thing, I question their choice of venues for printing the guidlines. I mean... Marville? I don't want to make assumptions, but... Marville? I might expect something like 'The All-New All-Different Mighty Marvel Submissions Guideline Book' or maybe something with an X in the title, but... Marville? Oh well, at least I can get the same info online.

Unfortunately, a gallery doesn't tell you some of the most important things about working with an artist. You'd need to know how long they took to produce that art, and what their average speed is for sequential art pages. You'd also likely need to know whether they're capable of drawing the other things you might need for your particular story. If there's a crucial scene at an airport, for example, can they draw a plane and a ticket counter and a baggage carousel? Etc.
