: Pencils: Joe Bennett : Inks: Jack Jadson : Marvel Comics, 32 color pages, $2.25
: I never expected to say this about THOR, but this is fascinating. It : seems the Norse gods have brought Asgard to Earth and are getting more : involved in the affairs of humanity. Whether healing the incurably ill : or removing murderous dictators, they're using their amazing abilities : to make the lives of everyday people better. They're going beyond simply : stopping obvious criminals (although they do that too) to bring about : justice in many different forms.
Justice...?!? *shudder*

Oh, no, I wouldn't consider those comparable at all. The Authority were assholes, and the Order were dictators. What's happening in Thor is more along with the lines of simple help offered and wrongs righted. The closest comic story I could think of would be when Hermes came to Earth during Perez's Wonder Woman run.
Check it out after it's released and tell me if you still think it's similar to those you mention, ok?

I'm commenting on:
Hmmm interesting as the preview they had (in the Gen 13 !3 cents issue?) was kind of confusing and depressing for what I did understand. This is a bit more clearer and interesting/
Good to hear, as I'm really appreciating Vaughan's recent work, but with Marvel's tendency to tpb everything I'll wait for it on this. (since I know zip about Chamber)
little slow getting started. The dialog is realistic, but the
Hmm i'll be curious to see what his endings are like. I've read some of Mr. Meltzer's novels and they have good dialogue and ideas. Yet the endings always come off as awkward.
I picked it up only because I'm one of Cinnamon's few fans, and I

ridiculous second-person narration is gone, which is definitely a plus.)
Well that will get me to try the book then. I like the character, but that narration, and other things, just annoyed me so much that I dropped the book.
Isn't this the same guy who did GRRL SCOUTS for Oni Press? I remember my reaction to it being similar to what you describe here, so it looks like this is his chosen style I guess.
Sounds interesting.. Do you think its something someone who has NEVER read Thor could jump on with?
Whew you just solved a question I've had for years. I thought I'd seen the BIG BANG COMICSS once, but no one else ever seemed to remember it, so i thought I'd imagined it.
I agree with you in not seeing the point of these stories. Its in the same way I couldn't really get into Moore's SUPREME, in that its so unoriginal that I might as well be reading the originals if I'm interested in reading stuff like that.
Thanks,

I didn't even bother with the preview there, so I can't compare

Well, the Authority and the Order's actions were initially motivated by the desire to 'help and right wrongs' as well

The Defenders, maybe, but by the time of the Order, no. They were motivated by a selfish desire to stop being bothered by the curse they were under.
The Authority, I think there's a similar distinction between them and Stormwatch, but I don't recall what I've read clearly enough to be sure.
I can think of some other possibilities, but I don't want to second-guess the storyline. Right now, I'm enjoying seeing where it's

I hope somewhere else, because that schtick is, as you said, OLD. Nothing wrong with not being able to see where else it might be going though. I like being surprised. I hope Jurgens will surprise me, rather than trot out a tired old cliche.

That was the real reason, but all along the way, they operated under the pretense that they wanted to help humanity. It's even spelled out somewhere in the book.

I don't remember the Authority ever claiming that they were doing the job because they thought of themselves as assholes.

I'm afraid I've read too many Jurgens stories in order not to second-guess anything he

I didn't care much for his GL Circle of Fire mini either, but everything after that has been cool.

Yup, of course I also will probably fear what'll happen if he introduces any new interesting female characters as well. (given some of his novel endings )
Cool, I'll be out of town this week when it comes out, but maybe I can find a copy at a shop in the area I'll be in.

But the reader knew that that wasn't true, so the situation isn't comparable to the THOR one, in my opinion.
It's because I've read so many Jurgens stories that I have great faith in his craft.

I wish I could be as confident that Jurgens won't blow the ending. I still haven't forgiven him for the way he resolved the 'Who is Marnot' mystery.
You and Johanna have made this book sound very intriguing. Just a couple of months ago I was wondering what could get me to try reading Jurgen's Thor again. I'm going to pick up the latest issue.
