John Byrne: Filesharing = Rape???

Oh. My. God.

On the unofficial John Byrne message board ( http://www.acc.umu.se/~alpha/byrne/ ) , there is a shitstorm going on because John Byrne has chosen to equate filesharing and rape. And he is defending his point as valid. I am stunned. I have seen JB make all kinds of snarky curmudgeon-y, inaccurate remarks, but this is a new low.

I can't understand this shit. That's sickening.

How can he get away with this?

Wouldn't 'rape' be if people forced their way onto my computer to take my files? Or if I forced my way into the recording studio to put their demo tapes onto my computer? If someone *sells* something to me and then I share it, that seems more like 'misdemeanor'... as if I'd gone to a restaurant and shared my dinner without paying the $2 extra for an extra plate.
