Looking for a specific issue of Iron Man

Hi,

Over a decade ago I used to buy every comic title on the stands. These days I don't buy much. Back in the day Iron Man was one of my favorites. There is a specific issue that I'm looking for. I've gone through my entire collection and I can't seem to find it. Here is a recap of what happened in that issue, please put this through the 'This guy has a bad memory' filter before smacking me with a 'it didn't happen that way'. I'm bound to get some of the details wrong.

Anyway. In the issue Iron Man, Tony Stark, ends up fighting another guy in power armor. The fight may take place on Stark property. It is during the era of Stark Enterprises (Not Stark International). Iron Man and the other armored fellow get in to a huge fight and at some point and time an EMP (electro magnetic pulse) is set off. After the EMP goes off both men are frozen where they stand not being able to do anything. The bad guy starts to brag that he has added updates to his armor since he and Iron Man last fought. He says my armor will reboot in 12 minutes, and then I'm going to beat the crap out of you. That's when Stark tells the bad guy that he has made some updates to his armor as well, and his armor will be ready for combat again in only 6 minutes. The bad guys eyes go wide and in 6 minutes time Stark proceeds to put the smack down on the bad guy.

I'd really like to read this issue again, but I can not seem to remember the issue number. Also, as I stated above, I appear to have lost the issue all together from my collection. I've talked over the events of this particular issue with a friend of mine and he remembers the issue, but can't come with up with it either. Is there anyone out there that knows what I'm talking about and can you supply me with an issue number? Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like issue #231, Iron Man's second battle with Firepower. (And pretty much the end of the first Armor Wars.)

I remember that issue, but likewise can't place the exact issue number....

I seem to remember it was during or immediately following 'Armor Wars,'... I think...

I remember the story very well. The issue is number 288 The mag was a very well done 'anniversary issue' I believe it was 30 years from the original issue 39 or Tales of Suspense. Anyway the other person was a government agent sent in to obtain the individual known as the 'Atom Smasher'. Tony was not in this story. It was during his 'fake' death and Jim Rhodes was in the War Machine armour. There is a Tony back up story of his thoughts while he is 'On Ice'.

Note the 'U' in Armour. English/Canadian spelling.

And let me just say: D'oh! (I've read both those issues and should have remembered the quote from #288...why the heck I confused it with #231, I have no idea.)

It was a good guess - same as I'd have made! I stopped buying IM at #281, but I guess I'll have to get #288 now...
