Marvel has finally placed the Fantastic Four #67 Dot Comic online for all to view. I've been anxiously awaiting this issue to hit the streets for a few weeks now, and this dot comic is exactly what I needed to whet my appetite. The Dot Comic seems to lay to rest at least one widely assumed plot of the story.

SPOILER SPACE

Am I the only one who's tired of characters being revamped who don't need it? There's nothing really wrong with Doctor Doom, and yet according to this Dot Comic preview explanation, it looks like he's going to be shifting from a techno-despot to a lovesick oaf pining after a long-lost girlfriend. THAT'S supposed to impress me? THAT'S supposed to be someone capable of what Doom has committed and/or accomplished all these years? Gimme a break.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Personally I think where Waid seems to be going with this could end up really good. I hardly doubt that Victor would turn into a lovesick heart throb, but isn't it only natural that as he ages he'd look back on his life and see that he didn't in fact have everything he needed?

Besides, we do not yet have all the details of what's going to happen here. Somehow the FF is going to get involved and there's going to be a major conflict between Doom and Richards. I've heard rumors that something might happen to Franklin and it's what happens to him shifts the story onto that different path.

This seems very plausible to me, and whats more.. with someone like Waid writing it, could turn out to be a 'fantastic' story!

I really enjoyed the preview. It's a breath of originality from Mark Waid, which his run so far has been lacking. I felt really sympathetic towards Doom, which I enjoyed. There also seems to be a depth to Doom in the preview, something lacking from Waid's FF characatures.

I dropped Fantastic Four after reading Waid's first three mediocre issues, but I'll definetly pick up the book again whyen this Doom arc

I think Waid is a great writer, but his Doom (from what I read in the dotComic) didn't impress me. Roger Stern and Ellis, now they wrote a great Dr. Doom.

If that Morrison/Ultimate FF rumor is true, hopefully Morrison's Doom will be 'fantastic'.

On another note, the Fantastic Four do not appeal to me, AT ALL. I don't know why, it could be the idea of the family itself. I thought the same of Busiek's First Family, even though I enjoyed the stories, I didn't find myself wanting more First Family stories.

I agree about the preview, it shows a more in depth look at how Doom/Victor thinks of himself. I have come to look at the character as someone with a dual personality. At the core, there is always Victor but over the years he created 'Doom' as a buffer to the outside world. He is the one who 'protects', invoking his father's dying words. Maybe this is why 'Doom' speaks so much in the third person. Note that Victor does not do this in his little visit to the wilds of America's middle class.

Oh, and Waid has promised 'grim, dark, and vicious, dark' acts of vengeance on Reed and his 'ill-witted' family. So while Doom is sure to make his reappearance, I think it was an interesting choice for Waid to show Victor first in a more sympathetic light before beginning his latest campaign against the FF. I also like to think Tom Brevoort had a hand in making Waid's story and Priest's story in Double Shots complement each other. Both are actually a follow-up to Doom's first solo appearance years ago in Marvel Superheroes #20 (vol.1) where Valeria first made her appearance.
