Late Friday, Marvel Comics sent out a teaser image heralding the imminent arrival of their much-rumored and oft-discussed new Epic imprint.

The image gives a first look at the cover to the debut issue of outgoing Ultimate X-Men writer Mark Millar's six-issue creator-owned mini-series Trouble, with art by the husband-and-wife team of Terry and Rachel Dodson.

Does this imrpint have anything in common with the Epic one from the late '80s?

No, they're just reusing the name.

Marville #7, of all places, will apparently contain a lengthy explanation of the Epic imprint and details on how to pitch for it. Its main distinctive feature seems to be that it positively encourages submissions from unpublished writers.

So, there might actually be something worth reading in Marville #7?

I think that's a good idea, Marvel lost alot of talent and those without talent in the 90's because many had no outlet at Marvel for creator owned stuff.

Could be good if handled corectly.

Who said anything about 'creator owned'?

No no no. This is not 'creator owned'. By most accounts this is 'do work for peanuts and get yourself published.' Which, in fairness, is not such a bad deal if you're talking about creators with no track record, even in the indies, because your real reward will (in theory) come in the form of exposure.

I gather Epic will be doing some creator owned or creator participation projects as well, but that's not the deal which they're suggesting to newbie creators.

Shoulda been clearer, I meant for established guys like Millar etc. It's one way to ensure no Image like exodus. Also who knows, this may turn up some decent talent ito of the no namers.
