I just picked up the new Silver Surfer comic and it is not good. It seems like comics out today seem to take seven or eight comics to tell the same story ( in one or two comics.) as they did in the seventie's , eighties and nineties. The surfer appears in the last two pages that's it. The comic should be called guest starring Silver Surfer. I realise they want to build the story up, but that's just not a good way to start a series. As you can tell I was very disappionted with the comic.

That's Nu Marvel's policy of stretching storylines out to the max in order to try and insure that sales will go up. Bendis is king of this money grubbing

Although I acknowledge seeing this trend with too many titles in the Marvel line and therefore don't buy that many anymore, I disagree 100% with your statement about BENDIS. Ultimate Spidey. Although not every issue has a stand alone tale, BENDIS' writing on this book have always moved the sotry forward and each encounter has given us a bit more insight on the characters involved. This is easily one of the best books on the market right now, IMO. Veryt solid writing and BENDIS' best work.

I *like* this tactic. It allows me to develop more os a sense of the situation, and why the characters are doing certain things. Bindis is the KING of this skill.
Stories that move too fast have a tendency to come off seeming cheesy and unsophisticated.

Not criticising you spelling, but 'Bindis' could become a new nickname for all those Brian Bendis. I like his work also.
Kind of agree here, especially with some writers like C Claremont, who seems to wrap up story too quickly and ruin it.

Wrong. Just look at the origin issues (for a very small start). How many months went by to tell the same story that could have been told in 2 issues? USM is one of the worst offenders, for god's sake. And Alias' pacing has also been a total and complete joke.

A bit of irony.....A lot of the DC folks in the 1960s criticized Marvel stories for moving too slowly and being padded....
What some folks are missing, I think, is that different stories demand different paces. If the story is an all out adventure/action story, then the pace should be quick and fast paced. I think criticisms of MYSTIQUE as slow have some validity; the pace and type of story don't match.
But other stories are different. ULTIMATE SPIDER MAN is not about the adventures of Spiderman. It's about the life of a teenager who gets super-powers. And to show that life properly, you need to slow down and show the ups and downs; rushing from fight to fight would kinda miss the point.

I like cheesy and unsophisticated. They're wearing tights for chrissakes! This is literature's answer to wrestling, not high art.

Not always (think Miller, Moore or Gaiman- just to name a few)- but definitely always when Bendis is involved.
