With the Punisher movie looming on the horizon (it's a great time for me), I was wondering what other fans are hoping for in the movie?

Do you want the story to take a Carl Potts/War Journal tilt, with gimmicks and gadgets and Micorchip? Or are you partial to a recreation of Ennis' inital run (which was excellent!)?

Also, are you more keen on some examination of the psychological aspects of why the Punisher is who he is? Or do you just want a bloody, action packed flick?

Personally, I would like to see and Ennis like loner with some attention payed to the character as opposed to just his actions.

BTW..if whoever plays Castle, looks to be Thomas Jane (!), cracks one smile, lets one criminal go or anything like that...I will burn the theatre to the ground.

I can't believe the Punisher might be palyed by someone named Jane.....

I think the reason Ennis's run never quite worked is exactly because the Punisher was a loner. The Punisher, like him or hate him, is probably the kind of character that only really works best as a supporting player. For example, as the blood-thirsty psychopath in Daredevil who just wanted to punish the bad guys without really thinking about it. This is, to my mind, what was intended for the character when he was created, but when his popularity grew and he started receiving his own books, I think authors such as Carl Potts found out that the Punisher just doesn't play well as a solo anti-hero. It's too hard to get behind a protagonist who's a psychopath with few redeeming qualities. Ennis missed the boat here, which is why I didn't make it past issue three or so of his run.

As silly as it seems to turn the Punisher into some sort of Soldier of Fortune, a killing machine with a heart of gold, it tends to work best whenever he's the 'star' so to speak.

Might be showing my age, but.......to me, the zenith of all things Punisher starts and ends with Grant and Zeck. That's the ultimate (oops, shouldn't use that word) Punisher. I've liked some of the other work, including Ennis, but I don't know that any of them get him as well as they do. Ennis is a little bit of a comedy characture (not sure 'serial killer' is exactly apt either); team player, no; complete psychopath killing jaywalkers, not right. I'd go back to the Mini-series and graphic novel of Grant and Zeck. Now, I wouldn't say they have to use those stories (although Big Nothing is self-contained, with an origin), but the concept of the character is there.

And I just saw on E! Online the Thomas Jane rumor....IF it ever happens, I think they can do a lot worse than him, so I wasn't too bent out of shape.

' I was born in Dussel Dorf, that is why everyone calls me Dolph!' Sorry, bad spelling and poor riff on Springtime for Hitler.

Yeah, that's why Punisher just got dropped from my pull list. It's an interesting concept, but it gets old VERY fast. I've really got no interest in watching Frank Castle shoot people for really no reason. Page after page of meaningless bloodshed and absolutely zero hope of change in the main character bored he hell out of me.
