In FF V1, #3, they battle the Skrulls. It seems as though there were 4 of them, 1 impersonator for each FF member. At the end of the issue, it looks like there are only 3 cows. Did I miss something? Thanks.

In the frame where the skrull & J. Storm - both alight - would it have left an operating skrull?

Can we use *Flame ON* as a verb rather than *alight*? Alight is just not sounding action-packed enough for 'moi'.

Actually, this was covered around a decade later over in Avengers, where the fourth Skrull was revealed, just prior to the start of the Kree-Skrull War, to have ended up impersonating Senator H. Warren Craddock after managing to avoid Reed's cow-hypnosis.

'Alight' wasn't being used as a verb in that sentence. (In any case, 'alight' as a verb means something completely different.)

ga rec.arts.comics.marvel.universe no naseke!

Weird. I quote directly from the issue (#2 btw, not #3) where Reed says 'The fourth one is on his way to another galaxy now with the rest of his invasion fleet!' Which is odd, since we were never shown the FF taking a Skrull up to the mothership with them...

Probably just an oversight, or else one of them wandered off to socialise with the other cows in the background. But John Byrne followed up on this seeming end in FF Annual #17

The 4th cow became many hamburgers that made their way into a McDonalds franchise where many High School students had quite a meal one day at lunchtime,

They then went on to become Skrulls themselves, where in Omega The Unknown #22 (unpublished) shown them with the hypnotic ability to control all the cows on earth. They planned on conquering earth, but were defeated at the last minute by the love-child of Omega and the Rawhide Kid.

: one day at lunchtime, : : They then went on to become Skrulls themselves,

Wasn't this pretty much the concept of Skrull Kill Krew, or have I misremembered that totally?

I think Jack Kirby just forgot to draw the fourth Skrull when the FF had them rounded up and when we see three contented ol' cows grazing in the last panel. Jack used to draw guns and planes looking completely different from one page to the next, and he was quite capable of overlooking a little detail like one alien (especially as the FF had just captured three Skrulls, not four, Sue being of little help in that case).

Stan threw in Reed's comment about the fourth Skrull returning with the rest of the Skrull fleet to explain this, but this makes no sense at all. Reed had just tricked the Skrull commander into leaving Earth in panic (he showed the gullible alien pictures from Marvel sci fi comics, honest) and if the fourth infiltrator Skrull had gone back with the fleet, he would have given the whole thing away.

Now what COULD have happened was that in that scene where the Thing was wrestling with a Skrull who had taken the form a huge python...well, the Thing was very badtempered in those early days and perhaps he sort of accidentally broke the Skrull's neck so quickly and violently that th shapechanger died. And Reed, not too proud of his teammate's unnecessary roughness, threw the corpse in the next room and told the police chief that stuff about the fourth Skrull going home all safe and unhurt.
