I know this seems like an unusual post, but I was wondering if anyone here has ever networked for non-creative positions that were open at the major comicbook publishing companies. I know the comicon is fan/creator driven, but I'm wondering if it's worth bringing a resume and business cards to events such as these. Has anyone ever had a lucky experience?
If anyone does respond, please send it to my personal account at
Sincerely, -R. Michael Cruz

It couldn't hurt to show up with resumes and business cards.

Brian, so what else was it supposed to be? I mean, despite it being a nice place to meet and network for pros, there is still lots of stuff for fans to do. 15 hr anime, sales, card games, costume balls, new product showcases, etc. You make it seem that none of that stuff matters for the fans.

Then again, I remember Comicon from 20+ years ago when it was a much smaller affair.

Well, I understand your feeling, but perhaps the glitz has turned you off it. There are still many folks who have the rarer or older books for sale. It's the 90's stuff that's hard to find.

I guess we all get something different out of ComiCon. Every year I try somrthing new and learn things I didn't know. This year for the first time I'm going to commission some original art. Does anyone know if there's an event scheduled specifically for usenetters? If not then why not? I think it would be a blast to associate some faces with the handles and posts I see every day. I noticed that the JLA/Avengers trivia challenge will have a team of usenet folks but I didn't recognise any of the names.

It's coming up next week, and no one here has posted 'lets get together' post.
So I shall. But I'm not from the area, I'm up in Los Angeles. I plan on driving up and down each day, about 1 hr drive for me, no worries. I volunteer in the morning, so if folks here on racmx/mu want to meet for lunch or dinner, I'd be game. Who else? Should we trade emails/phone #'s or something?

I think his point is, with the exception of Pro/Con, every other industry's conventions involve networking and the exchange of ideas within an industry. A comics convention is more than often a fleamarket, and what panels are held are generally for the fans, not for other

This year, for the first year in a very long time, I'm avoiding the dealer's room. I used to go spend hundreds every year but now with eBay and the net... I don't have to wait for the convention so I don't need a single back issue. I plan to just see friends I only get to see there, maybe see a couple events and go home with my pockets full instead of empty.

I still go to SDCC, I haven't missed one since #7, I think, but it's just not the same experience as a smaller convention.
