SDCC DC Exclusive Announcements--What Does This Mean for Marvel?

And so the pendulum swings back again...

Unless I've missed someone correctly, DC's announced (at the San Diego Comicon) that the following creators have signed exclusive contracts:

Grant Morrison (2 year deal

Well, Marvel still have Bendis, Straczynski, Larroca, Deodato Jr, Middleton, etc, so they're not exactly short on exclusive talent themselves...

Seems to me like Marvel goes after artists and DC gos after writers.

What do you expect, their EIC is one. :O

Joe Quesada was asked that at his blockbuster panel. He said that only three short years ago Marvel was in bankruptcy and still had to be careful how they spent their money (and as an example of the imortance of such a task, he noted that Marvel stock is worth of over $20 per share now). After a cost-benefit analysis, they could not justify a presence at what he called 'the most expensive convention' and they would have a full booth at Chicago.

No, it didn't make a lot of sense to me either.

Luckily for Marvel they have Chuck Austen to step into the breach
