I recently picked up the 'New' Spectacular Spider-Man comic and saw that in the Indicia area that the book was stated as Vol. 1, No. 1. Shouldn't this be Vol. 2 No. 1 because of the first run of PP Spectacular ?. Is Marvel passing this off as a New title separate from the first run?

Saying that they are trying to pass it off as something is probably overstating things a bit. Basically, the laws about volume numbers have changed so Marvel doesn't have to be so specific about it anymore. Its really just an academic point as volume numbers aren't nearly as important as they used to be. I've noticed DC doesn't even bother with them. Sure, technically it should be volume 2, but its such a small point to quibble over.

Depends on whether you count the 'The' in the title or not.

Which they don't seem to do. Same thing with Incredible Hulk vol 1 (The Incredible Hulk vol2). It's best to ignore it SpideyCollector.

Same thing with (THE) PUNISHER, apparently.

However, then there are books like UNCANNY X-MEN, X-MEN, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, AVENGERS or NEW MUTANTS, which all had the 'The' in the title at one point or another, without their 'volume' being affected either way.

Depends what was written in the indicia (not the cover), I haven't looked at my vol 1s, so I can't comment further. It's not that important to me anyway. I'm used to Marvel's renaming and renumbering.

I was referring to the indicia, since that's what we'd been talking about.
