I heard this series may have been completely cancelled. Is this true? Does anyone know what the status of this is?

On hold. Kevin Smith's film career is more important than his comic career (by his own admission).

And yet somehow, Marvel knew this before starting up *2* Kevin Smith miniseries that have yet to be completed (Daredevil: Target #1 came out..........damn, sometime last year...)

And they were stupid enough to hope he would finish the DD mini in time for the TPB to be out for the DD movie.

This is disgraceful. Kevin Smith should be writing fan fiction instead of actual comics if this is his admitted mindset (I could get off on a rant as to what I think of the quality of Smith's comic book work, but I won't). Marvel should sue this asshole.

On indefinite hiatus until such time as Kevin Smith can be arsed writing the remaining two issues. See also Daredevil: Target.

This might account for the abortion of Marvel's initial plan to give Smith an ongoing Spider-Man series. Much as I like Smith's work, I think Marvel have been stupidly reckless to allow him to start two miniseries in the light of his history, and there is no way on earth he should be allowed near any other comic until he's finished these two.

Ah, but here's the kicker: Marvel has (as of yet) not solicited any further issues of Daredevil: Target; so technically, they're in no trouble for that one. Spidey/Black Cat #4 (and possibly 5), though, were solicited I believe, but have been pulled...

Both were solicited, and I think #4 was even solicited twice.

Daredevil had deadline problems when Smith was writing the book, right? And it wasn't just him, if memory serves. DC signs him to do Green Arrow, and he misses just 3 deadlines that I know of out of 15 issues. Joe Quesada & Bill Jemas should've known better than to trust him with another project, knowing that he was working on a movie (Jersey Girl) at the same time. Jersey Girl has long since finished production, I would think, so maybe he's finally getting around to writing the damn books. I bought the first 3 issues of Spidey/Black Cat, because it was a good story, but no one's going to give a damn if the conclusion isn't out until early '04 (at this rate, that's very likely). Target was overpriced to start with ($3.50), perhaps to pay Smith's hefty contract. Marvel owes the fans a major make-good and about 100 mea culpas for this foolishness.

Someone give Jemas & Quesada copies of the works of George Santayana!
