Stan Lee suing Marvel

Main new bits from the previous 'threatening to sue' news of a few days ago is that Stan also wants money from toys and other merchandise, in addition to the movies, and the suit's language of 'shameful scheme' and Marvel having 'trampled upon' Stan's rights.

Kinda funny coming from the guy who helped spearhead the rectal pounding Marvel gave Jack Kirby.

Not really, Kirby didn't have the same contract Lee recently signed. Marvel is trying to weasel out of that. The Kirby thing was a moral issue. Different deal.

Same principle, though. Hope Lee gets squashed.

Yeah, thats exactly what I was thinking. Turn about is fair play you friggin comic nazi. God I hate Stan Lee. People are sitting here talking all about how HE created Spiderman and isn't getting a dime but we need to all remember how he royally screwed Jack over... pretty much the same way. And Jack wasn't even getting a hefty million a year paycheck to boot.

Stan Lee is a twisted old con man.

More litigation against Marvel? (shrug)

Nothing really new about this. I'm generally opposed to Marvel as a corporate entity, but to see a founding figure get on them like this? I'm thinking of Jack Kirby myself.

One of the things which frosts me about corporate politics (irregardless of who was involved) is the way in which successive generation of leadership find ways to cut off those who helped carry the company to its zenith. I've been through at least one instance of this. Any more, all I think they care about is the 'bottom line', but that's the way it'll remain until something happens which they can't regulate or litigate out of their way.

As for Stan 'the Man'...that comment about turnabout aside, it is a pretty sad note to see what's happened to him since he let the company go. As the saying goes, you can't take it with you.

Read the contract. If the money was made from Licensing then they don't owe Stan a dime.

Could someone please enlighten me as to the Marvel / Jack Kirby event? That was probably a bit before my time and I'd like to have an idea of what this all means in context.
