S P O I L E R
S P A C E
I have to admit, I must be some what hooked. I looked at the cover and couldn't resist picking up this issue. I said I was done, but that art is something to behold. I know I'm not a big fan of the writing.
This issue really bothered me. The whole fight between Hank and Jan was disturbing. The fact that he may have killed her while he maintained a smile on his face is just creepy. I realize that was the intention. I know this comes from the abusive angle they took in the Avengers, but the graphic display was a bit more than I want out of a comic.
I have to say, overall, I wasn't really impressed with this issue. The revelations were not that exciting and the characters are just so unlikable to me. Thor is a basket case, Banner is a basket case, Hank is a basket case, Jan and Tony have some major issues and Cap is a bit of a bully. Betty is truly an unbearable twit. The whole team is a dysfunctional mess.
True, there are some nice touches in this book...it has a real world feel to it...but, I'm just finding it harder to appreciate the Ultimates outside of the art. Hitch is a wonderful artist and I simply enjoy looking at all of the details in his work. I wouldn't mind seeing him move over to the regular Avengers title.

I think this could be a good thing if they start trying to move them in a positive direction (aside from Banner, who I suspect is in for a really rough ride in this retelling). If they can show the team 'growing up,' coming together, etc, then I won't mind all of this weirdness as much. But if things stay the way they are, it will begin to *seriously* irritate me after a while.
Todd was never really a big Avengers fan anyway but gave this book a shot based on a recommendation from a friend

as a huge avengers fan since kree/skrull war, i have to say this issue made me like the ultimates a bit more then the last 5. when hank pym went a little screwy around ultron's first appearance and took on the yellow jacket persona, i was floored, and when jim shooter brought it all back again i dug it. i know it was all worked out in recent avengers, but i like him mentaly ill. to me it's who he is. and wasp as a mutant! and tony as a cross dresser? jarvis is gay? thor is a millitant scocialist? well ok those things are a bit off but i can hang.
