Yes. Correct.

Smith will write them when he gets around to them, if then. For all practical purposes, I suggest you give up hope of ever seeing them.

Well, the economics of the comic publishing business mean that there's a lot more money to be made in licensing the characters to Hollywood and taking a cut of the film profits than in actually publishing them in the first place.

Except Marvel's films are mainly based on old characters, created decades ago. They've been rather less good at selling the film rights to new characters - though rumour has it that TROUBLE, the first book in the Epic line, has already been optioned.

BLACK PANTHER wasn't a top 50 book. It sold diabolically, at least by Marvel standards, and it's been on the verge of cancellation for low sales for ages. The last issue charted at number 131.

Isn't TROUBLE creator-owned, though? If so, Marvel gets nada out of that.

Peter Parker's not restarting. It's been cancelled and replaced with a new series of Spectacular Spider-Man/

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's all semantics

It's not a rumor. The film will draw heavily from Ennis' 'Welcome back Frank' incarnation of the character.

Black Panther was charting around the #110 mark at last check. Spider-Girl is in the 80's or so.

I gather TROUBLE is not creator-owned, but in any event, Daniel Way has helpfully explained the creator-owned arrangement for Epic books in an interview promoting his miniseries GUN THEORY. Basically, Marvel get the publishing rights and a cut of anything in other media.

Ah, okay then. I thought Millar owned it for some reason. And I guess those 'other media' cuts are probably pretty standard in these contracts. Though I'd think a writer of Millar's drawing power could negotiate a better percentage for himself than many creators.

I can't see that there would be any point in Marvel publishing creator-owned material if they didn't get a share of movie rights. Where would they make their money? After all, they have shareholders to answer to.
