I too bit my nails and wonder if Daredevil was going to be the end for anymore potential Comic Book based movie! It turned out that it did real well in the box office. Sure, they changed his costume from spandex to leather, but it was close enough to the original to make the translation! I personally thought that Jennifer Love Hewitt was a better choice for Elektra, but Jennifer Gardner did quite well, and is even given a spin-off! I loved the movie, and I could see both a little Spider-Man, and a little Batman used for the make-up of the film. However, when you consider that Daredevil doesn't have the same recognition as Spider-Man, much less than Batman, I think the movie did superb!

The Hulk has a great recognition going for him, due to the late 70s tv series! I don't think the majority of the ticket buyers are going to be as particular about the realisticness of the CGI as a lot of posters here seem to be. They know that its impracticle to find any actor standing 8 feet tall and weighting 1/2 Ton! Just like Scooby Doo, the audience knows that there isn't going to be an actual dog that will walk on its hind legs for a prolong time, and give the same acting posture as the character is expected to do! For example, and actual dog is not going to be able to talk on the phone with the receiver in his paw! The same goes with The Hulk, the CGI will be obvious, but it will be enough for the audience to suspend their minds in belief.

You're right about the Superman, and Batman franchises. They may not have killed the genre entirely, but it did stall the genre a bit! There was a Steel movie made, that was based more on Shaq O'Neal's ego than on the Comic Book character. It flopped big! However their have been a 'Superman Reborn' movie planned, which was to be based heavely on the 'Death of Superman' saga in Superman #75. That was scraped because Kevin Smith couldn't write a script that the producers would buy! There is an all-new Superman project, Batman project, and a Batman Beyond project in the works, but in the meantime Marvel properties are having its turn to shine. The success of 'Blade', followed with 'X-Men', then 'Spider-Man', then 'Daredevil', and soon to be released 'The Hulk'. I anticipate that all five of those movies will be successful and the Fantastic Four movie will become a reality next year!

However, after so many sequels, the audience is going to find the franchise as old-hat and the excitement of the character will not be as strong as it was in the original movie.

I pretty much believe that has a big contribution to it!

Quite true, they are three of Marvel's leading characters, others being Fantastic Four, Ironman, Captain America, Thor, and as a team The Avengers. On the other hand, Blade could have fell in the B-grade catagory, but Vampires were the in-thing and a lot of people may have looked at it more as a Vampire movie rather than a Comic Book character. Of course Wesley Snipes was a big help in drawing an audience! In addition, it was a well-done, kick ass flick! However the movie did grant him an attempt at a new Comic Book series, but not all the ticket buyers were buying the comic book!

I think Hawkman would do well as a movie if done as an action based film! I realize that his pants will have to be replaced with leather (hopefully with the same coloring), but Carter Hall is not a comicial character, and his comic book title has been rebooted about a dozen times!

I think Warner Bros. should have sent Joel Shumacher out the back door and got back to basics with the Darker rendition of Batman. The Batman: Year One project would have been a good idea of getting back on track, but I have a feeling that this project is going to be place in an entirely different continuity!

I personally thought that George Clooney was pretty well suited for the role of Bruce Wayne, but his Batman persona was used more for Window Dressing, because there was too many cast members, 3 heroes and 3 villians!

I think Halle Berry's Catwoman will be more remisint of Eartha Kitts portrayal in the Batman tv series! This movie will probably be about a black woman that adapts the Catwoman persona that properly belongs to Selina Kyle. It will probably be preceived as Selina Kyle is still missing.

Totally. I'm not an especially big Hulk fan, but I reckon the Hulk movie has the potential to be the biggest Marvel movie so far - the Hulk is easily the most widely-recognised Marvel character there is, and has been for a quite a long time, thanks to his TV show.

It was also blessed with the magnificent combo of Matt Frewer as the Leader and Mark Hamill as the Gargoyle... Villainous double acts don't get much better than that! (Joker and Harley excepted of course)

Leader (Grandiosely): 'So says.. THE LEADER!'

Gargoyle (Muttering); 'So says the Leader... so says the Leader.... Oy! Talk about stuck in a rut!'

Uhhhh, no Spidey still holds that distinction, and he doesn't look like he'll be giving up the title anytime soon.

It will be *at least* as believable as a body builder painted green. And will probably turn in a better performance.

It's become increasingly obvious that the WB film executives in charge of handling their comic book properties are utterly incompetent at handling those properties.

And let's not forget that the MEN IN BLACK movies are based on a Marvel comic, too. As far as Hollywood is concerned, Marvel comic book licenses have produced eight highly successful box office takes in the past five years:

Men in Black Men in Black 2 Blade Blade 2 Spider-Man X-Men X-Men 2 Daredevil

That's pretty huge. It will probably take more than one flop to derail this train.

Having read the thread going on in the dc group it seems that this Catwoman will have as much in common with the comics version as the Batman Returns one did. IIRC there is some sort of supernatural thingy going on and she isn't a cat burglar. Early days still though.

Men In Black wasn't Marvel. It was a small independent company.

When the first movie was made, it was credited to Malibu. Only the sequel had the Marvel credit.

Spidey is the most recognised and most famous in comic book circles, I would say. In the 'real world,' the Hulk still takes it, baby (although Spidey's movie has made him a big-ass contender, while the X-Men still haven't quite managed it).
