Or is there such a character? Friend of mine asked me about the name and it doesn't ring any bells for me. TIA

The closest parallel I could think of is the illusionist Jason Wyngarde, Mastermind.

No, there is a better candidate Xavier could not be controlled by mere illusions

Jason Stryker is really David Haller aka Legion
http://snikt.com/COTA/mutants/L/Legion/Biography/ index.htm

or at least based on David Haller both have telepathic powers both have been physical/mental basket cases but you will notice that Jason had one blue eye and one green eye. So does David Haller

and also David is Xaviers son in the comics, which would make an ironic twist the script writers could not resist

Singer and Co would be saving Mastermind for the Dark Phoenix saga

opinions anyone?

I noticed some elements of the Stryker/Jason plot as similar to Professor Power and his son. Power wanted Xavier to help his son's mental shock. Xavier couldn't and Power wouldn't take no for an answer. Power also wanted to start WW III.

Anyway, Matthew Power's mind got irreversibly fried. So, of course, Dad bonds a suit of armor to Matt's body and does the easy-as-pie mind transfer. As compared to Stryker lobotomizing Jason to use his powers.

Am I stretching?

Like a mister fantastic who's dropped his keys down the sewer drain, . I believe that the MU equivalent of Jason is Wyngarde.

Wyngarde would be an even bigger stretch. Jason Stryker is more likely David Haller aka Legion. See my previous post for details.

Believe what you want, the only parallels between J Stryker and Legion are the father-son angle and the eye color... there is far more evidence connecting him to Mastermind.

I say let Jason Stryker be Jason Stryker.

I seriously doubt the moviemakers are going to have two illusion-casters named Jason in the series. The X2 Jason was as close to Mastermind as we're likely to get, and I don't think Mastermind will be involved if they do a Dark Phoenix storyline.

At the X2 page on Movie Mistakes they have this whole thing about Legion and how he may be in the film.

Except that Legion never had hallucinatory powers, IIRC. Also, Mastermind WAS powerful enough to fool Professor X on occasion.
