Wolvie Xisle- Wolverine an idiot?

Without getting into spoilerish material, did Wolverine come off as a flaming idiot in the first issue of Wolverine: Xisle? Was this the new action figure, Brain-dead Wolverine? I mean, no sense, no appreciation, no ability to deal with his ward....I don't expect Logan to be mister swave.....but I give him credit for having some common sense.....but maybe it's just me...
