To expand (in a fashion) on the 'Writer's (sic) you simply can't stand' thread, are there any writers whose work you buy automatically?

For me, there's Larry Niven (whose only comic work I'm aware of is 'Green Lantern: Ganthet's Tale' at the top of the list. Following that, I don't think I have any that I'll buy automatically, but Brian Michael Bendis, Judd Winick, and J. Michael Straczynski will get serious consideration for their new products.

Scott McCloud Kurt Busiek Neil Gaiman Mark Waid J. Michael Straczynski Peter David Brian Michael Bendis Alan Moore Rumiko Takahashi Kyle Baker

Now, that isn't a list of people who's works I will *continue* buying. David, Moore, and Waid have all produced series that I have tried and then stopped buying. But these are all people who will get me to try a book even if everything else about it makes me want to avoid it like the plague.

I think Jeph Loeb may be getting added to the list.

None, but there's quite a number whose work I buy ALMOST automatically: Warren Ellis, Kurt Busiek, Christopher Priest, Fabian Nicieza, Grant Morrison (who, as everybody knows, is a genius), Garth Ennis, J. Michael Straczynski, Greg Rucka, Joe Casey and Brian Michael Bendis come to mind.

Then there are select works from Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Paul Jenkins, Peter David, Kevin Smith, J.M. DeMatteis, Tom DeFalco and Peter Milligan.

Lately, I've also been impressed with Zeb Wells, Micah Ian Wright, Andy Diggle, Rob Morales, Christina Weir and Nunzio DeFilippis, Brian K. Vaughan and Sean McKeever.

FabNic and Neil Gaiman. Roman Dirge too, but that's a whole other newsgroup.

Well, there are writers that will make me try the book. Sometimes they miss the mark.

Only one never misses for me, and that is Frank Miller.

Otherwise: Winick Johns Alan Moore Ed Brubaker PAD Rucka Jay Faerber

And I am enjoying Joe Kelly's Action and his latest issue of JLA that he may be added.

There really is no one that is an automatic buy for me. I have bought just about everything from Warren Ellis, though.

Just Brian K. Vaughan & Christopher Priest.

Sean McKeever is getting to be a major favorite as well, though.

Same here. I figure that following a writer without considering subject matter, format, and other factors is as silly as automatically buying anything with a particular character regardless of writer and art team. Even my very favorite writers have put out things I didn't like. Even Alan Moore did Violator (or whatever that thing was).

The difference is this: if writer A and artist A are in a veign or do work you like on a regular basis, the odds are you're going to like what they do next...where as,because of these same factors,Superman(for example) may be badly written or drawn from one book to the next.
