Putting an end to the speculation that has dogged Marvel's Agent X since writer Gail Simone announced her departure from the book as of January's issue #7, X-Fan has learned that the title has been given an extended stay - for at least two issues - under the guiding hands of former Deadpool writer Buddy Scalera and newcomer artist Mitchell Breitweiser.

Certainly not because of his Wizard connections or friendship with Marvel's EIC, that's for sure.

More likely because of the critical - and commercial - success of his first run on Deadpool.

In fairness, the one issue that Scalera wrote solo - immediately before the Tieri run - was perfectly good.

However, the fact that he's only been announced as doing the book for two issues does smack of panic.

All hope of me bothering to try the title just got shot down in flames. I almost started buying the series when it started. Then when Gail quit I figured I'd wait until the new writer was named so I knew what I was getting myself into. Glad I waited now.

unless he was the guy who did the issue of deadpool where t-ray comes back and says deadpool was wade wilson all along, then sounds interesting. If it is the same guy, I'm glad I no longer purchase Marvel after thunderbolts #75.

That was a Frank Tieri issue.

Scalera was Jimmy Palmiotti's co-writer in a largely undistinguished, but broadly painless, run that preceded Tieri. Actually, the best thing in that run was the noir four-parter that they started with. Palmiotti's much better when he isn't trying to be funny.

Scalera, from what little I've seen of him writing solo, is a passable writer. He'll probably suffer in comparison to Simone, but he's likely to produce something reasonable.

No it wasn't. Tieri revealed on his message board that Scalera wrote those last two issues of the Funeral of a Freak arc solo
